Winter Make Up Tricks

Image

Really good winter makeup tricks are so hard to come by! Our industry experts have compiled winter makeup tricks that are easy to follow and that actually make sense to use in the winter. The winter time is not all about deep, dark colors and hues that you’d never be caught dead wearing in the summer time. It’s more about how you take care of your skin and how you can really bring out the beauty, even if the backdrop is all snowy white. So girls, are you ready to explore some of my makeup tricks specifically for the winter?

1. OIL-FREE MOISTURIZER FIRST

One of the most important winter makeup tricks that our industry experts do every day is put on an oil-free moisturizer. This will ensure that your skin stays beautiful and that you don’t get overly dry. The biggest thing that you’ve got to think about when the temperatures start to drop is your skin becoming dry and hard to cover. So moisturize, girls!

2. Light Foundation

When you are putting on your foundation in winter, make sure that the foundation is light, airy and that it covers. You don’t ever want something that is going to be super heavy, and while you might need some additional coverage, why not go with some lighter formula concealer? Just because it’s winter, don’t get into the heavy, liquid foundation!

3. NO HEAVY GLOSSES

What a lot of women do when the temperatures drop and the snow hits is stock up on heavy lip glosses. That isn’t the case this winter, girls! Drop the heavy and weighed down glosses and instead, opt for something that is light, opt for a stain or even just some chapstick!

4. SKIP THE DARK HUES

Just because it is winter, doesn’t mean that you have to dress all in dark – or do your makeup in dark colors! Ladies, this season, you need to skip all of the dark hues. Instead, opt for something that is lighter, something that is a little more colorful and will make you pop!

5. TWO COATS OF MASCARA

mascara is extremely in this winter ! This winter makeup trick is all about adding in at least two coats of mascara. Be careful though, you don’t want to get any spider lashes, so instead of letting it dry, just keep adding mascara until your lashes are plump and long!

6. PINKY/PEACH BLUSH

Want to know what blushes are in this season? This winter makeup trick is all about the pinks and the peaches! Of course, blush colors depend on exactly what your skin tone is, but don’t go with anything too dark. Instead go with coral or even something with a tiny bit of orange base!

Body Sculpting Defining Gel by It Works

The defining gel helps to increase results that can be achieved by the Ultimate Body Applicator.

Use the defining gel on non-wrap days to boost your inch loss and tighten up your skin. The defining gel has a eucalyptus scent and feels fresh and moisturizing after application. You can use the defining gel on your face too as well as all over your body. It is really the icing on your wrap cake.

❄ This is a great and quick way to style your hair for a night out. Start by prepping the root area to add volume to the hair, use a Babyliss Root Booston the first inch area of the hair, spraying each section of hair with Firm Hold Hairspray prior to crimping to protect and hold the hair, do this on the middle section of hair only, once you have crimped the hair back comb it using a Dressing comb.

❄ Warm a small amount of  Finishing Polish in your hands and start to direct the hair loosely across the back of the hair running a line of Goody Bobby Pins through the back of the hair, from the nape to below the crown, spraying the grips with hairspray to add a longer lasting hold.

❄ Pull the remaining hair across the grips, twisting and tuck in over the grips and secure using dressing pins, making sure that the pins are anchored under the grips.

❄ Smooth the hair into shape and finish with a mist of  Firm Hold Hairspray.

❄ Accessories look great with this look and a simple flower covered hairband will set this off perfectly.

Lipstick Tips & Tricks

1. Pick the right shade.

What most of us do: Swipe a possible new color on the back of our hand to see if it flatters. A better idea: Test the lipstick on your fingertip — that way, you can hold the color next to your face to see how it looks. (No mirror? Your finger is still a better gauge, since it’s similar in color and texture to your lips.)

2. Get buff.

For the prettiest finish, run your toothbrush over your lips to exfoliate any dry skin (a damp paper towel also can do the job). Post-scrub, lipstick will glide on without caking.

3. Fill in fine lines.

Here’s a way to keep lipstick from feathering (a great trick if you have tiny wrinkles above your upper lip): Coat your mouth and go slightly outside your lip line with a clear balm ‑- like plain ChapStick — before applying color. Like invisible spackle, it keeps your lipstick from traveling.

4. Extend the life of your lipstick.

So you’d like your color to last through lunch, but you don’t like the feel of long-wearing formulas? Here’s a tip: Apply a coat of regular lipstick, then press it with a single-ply tissue and powder lightly (over the tissue) with a puff or brush. This sets the color and prevents running and feathering.

5. Plump up.

For a finishing touch, dab the middle of your lower lip with a bit of silver or gold lip gloss. Any makeup artist worth his shimmer powder will tell you this is the fastest route to creating the illusion of fullness. But remember: If you blot or purse your lips, you’ll blur the Jolie effect.

7 Ways To Make Your Blow-Dry Last!

1. HANDS OFF

One of the hardest things to do after you get a fabulous blow-dry is to keep your hands off those soft and silky strands but it’s one of the most important rules and the one you must follow in case you want to master the art of how to make a blow-dry last. Touching your hair will cause it to lose its shape and body as well cause your scalp to produce oil so admire your hair from afar and avoid touching it at all costs!

2. WRAP IT UP

When it comes to tricks to making a blow-dry last, wrapping your hair up can mean the difference between waking up to soft, straight strands and having to face a tangled mess! Grab a silk scarf and carefully and loosely wrap your hair up so that the ends aren’t disturbed and leave bangs out. Avoid putting anything on your hair that can cause a dent or any weird lines in your hair.

3. TIE ME DOWN

If you don’t have a silk scarf to use, another trick to making a blow-dry last is to loosely tie the ends of your hair in a ponytail with a soft scrunchie high on the top of your head. Leave out the front portion that frames your face and sleep with a satin pillowcase. The key here is to loosely tie up your hair so that your strands and ends remain relatively intact.

4. SHOWER AND SHINE

Next on the list of the ways to make your blow-dry last even in the most challenging situations (such as showering)  is to tie your hair up again in a high and loose ponytail and tie a scarf or bandana around your hairline so that the shower cap doesn’t make any embarrassing dents in your skin or your hair and to keep hair from getting wet. Once you’re done showering, dry yourself off and shake your hair out. Feel free to use hairspray to help settle your hair.

5. DRY SHAMPOO

Another important step in how to make a blow-dry last is to use a dry shampoo after a couple of days when your scalp and/or hair starts feeling a little oily. Spritz or powder your roots and gently rub or brush the formula in to improve the look, feel, smell and texture of your hair!

6. REDUCE PRODUCT USE

When you’re looking for ways to make your blow-dry last, keep in mind that you want to use the least amount of products possible such as serums, hairspray and shine enhancers. You can use these products, of course, especially if you’re hoping to prolong your blow-dry for a work week, although using them towards the end is generally considered better  as it will allow you to have a fresher looking style as opposed to the one matted with a full week’s worth of product buildup.

7. BRING THE HEAT

One of the final steps in how to make a blow-dry last is to use a large barreled curling iron to give your hair some oomph. Change your part for more volume and use dry shampoo again if needed. Give your hair some bouncy curls or just use the iron to flip the ends under and get a more uniform look. If you don’t have time to curl your hair, dirty hair is always the easiest to style and braid so go for a fun fishtail braid or try something new!

Now you know exactly how to make a blowout last! Just be very gentle and avoid touching it or playing it as much as possible. The key to keeping your hair looking its best is to control oil and avoid using too many styling products in your hair which will weigh hair down. What’s the longest you’ve had a blowout last and what tricks did you use?
